Welcome to Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church

We are a lively, loving congregation located in downtown Butler. For 200 years, the people of Saint Andrews have gathered to celebrate God's love through thoughtful worship, caring fellowship, and service to the larger community. We work hard at being an inclusive faith community where people from all walks of life feel comfortable worshiping and working together. We hope you'll take a few minutes to browse our website. Better yet, come visit and let us get to know you. Our worship service is at 10:30 am. May Christ's peace be with you.

Our Vision Statement

Through the gifts of the Holy Spirit our vision is to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, by members joining together in leadership and learning, to develop Spiritual gifts and to extend these gifts into the community as true servants of God.

May 28, 2020

Dear Friends,

On Tuesday evening, May 26, our Session met via Zoom and voted to extend the policies that were first implemented on March 17, 2020. While our region is in the yellow phase of the state’s plan, gatherings of 25 people or more are prohibited. Even after we’ve moved to the green phase, our Session is choosing to move slowly, out of concern for our congregation and the health of our larger community. Though we know we can’t eliminate risk completely, one of our main commitments is to preserve the health and well-being of our church family. We plan to take this one month at a time and re-evaluate our decision at our next meeting in late June.

Just to review where we are:

1. In-person worship will be suspended for the next four Sundays (June 7, June 14, June 21, June 28). Our small team of worship leaders will continue to provide services on Sunday mornings so we can continue to worship together via the radio and computer. Please join us at 11:00 am on WBUT 1050 AM or any time via the link on the church website. Please share that information with your family and friends. We are blessed to have such a fine team of musicians and worship leaders, and we want to share that gift with the larger community!

If you have joys and concerns you would like to include in the Prayers of the People, please email Danielle at the church (office@standrewsupc.org) or call Pastor Merry (724-287-4682).

2. The Sunday Lunch Program and the Community Dinner Program continue in modified form. Each week, "to go” meals for our most vulnerable neighbors are distributed by small teams of dedicated volunteers at the Cliff Street entrance.

3. Danielle is maintaining normal hours (Monday—Thursday, 9:30 am—2:00 pm) at the church office and continues to process the mail and all checks. This is a challenging time for church finances. Your contributions are needed and deeply appreciated!

4. Pastor Merry is working from home. As always, if you have any questions, needs, or concerns, please don’t hesitate to call 724-287-4682.

5. Just a reminder. Since we cannot come together to pray right now, Saint Andrews and at least 16 other congregations in Butler have committed to praying at the same time every day—at either 7 am or 7 pm. Please continue to pray for those who are sick, for families who have lost loved ones, for health care workers and first responders, for government leaders, for those who are working and those who are not, and for the well-being of everyone in our community.

6. Many of us have been spending time cleaning out our closets and basements. Normally, we would welcome donations for our next Indoor Yard Sale. However, the church has run out of storage space, so we cannot accept any more donations at this time. If you can store your unwanted items, we’ll be happy to receive them after we’ve found more space or had a sale.

We know this is frustrating. We all miss seeing each other and worshiping together! But we also know that one of the hallmarks of our congregation, and the faith that guides us, is our mutual devotion and care. Jesus calls us to love one another. Sadly, right now, one of the ways we can do that is by staying apart.

We deeply appreciate your patience. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have questions or concerns.

In Christ’s Love,

Pastor Merry and John Ripper, Clerk of Session
