Welcome to Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church

We are a lively, loving congregation located in downtown Butler. For 200 years, the people of Saint Andrews have gathered to celebrate God's love through thoughtful worship, caring fellowship, and service to the larger community. We work hard at being an inclusive faith community where people from all walks of life feel comfortable worshiping and working together. We hope you'll take a few minutes to browse our website. Better yet, come visit and let us get to know you. Our worship service is at 10:30 am. May Christ's peace be with you.

Our Vision Statement

Through the gifts of the Holy Spirit our vision is to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, by members joining together in leadership and learning, to develop Spiritual gifts and to extend these gifts into the community as true servants of God.

An updated message from Pastor Merry and Session:

March 18, 2020

Dear Friends,

Every day brings new developments in the Covid-19 pandemic. On Monday, Governor Wolf asked nonessential businesses across our state to close and citizens to stay home. The CDC is now urging people to avoid gatherings of ten or more people. Given these realities, Session has approved the following changes for our life together as a congregation and our outreach to the community. Please know these decisions were not made quickly or lightly, but out of an abundance of concern for the health of our members and the larger Butler community.

  1. In-person worship will be suspended for at least the next three Sundays (March 22, March 29, and April 5). A small group of elders and staff will lead services so that we can continue to worship together via the radio and computer. Please join us at 11:00 am on WBUT 1050 AM or any time via the link on the church website. If you have joys and concerns you would like to include in the Prayers of the People, please email Danielle at the church ( or call Pastor Merry (724-287-4682).

  1. Church activities such as Sunday school, EDGE, choir rehearsals, and committee meetings are suspended until further notice. Elders and staff members are investigating ways we can continue to connect and nurture one another’s spirits through postings on the church website ( and Facebook (

  1. NA meetings and other community activities that normally take place at the church have also been suspended.

  1. Community Dinners for our most vulnerable neighbors will continue to be provided in a modified form. Wednesday night teams will be distributing "to go” meals at the Cliff Street entrance.

  1. The Sunday Lunch program will also continue. Distribution will occur outside of the building at the Cliff Street entrance.

Danielle will continue to maintain normal office hours at the church (Monday – Thursday, 9:30 am – 2:00 pm). If you can’t reach her by phone, please leave a message and she will get back to you as soon as she can. Pastor Merry is still recovering from a bad case of strep throat and is working from home (724-287-4682). If you have questions, needs, or concerns, please don’t hesitate to call. Your church family is here for you and wants to help!

Social isolation can easily deepen feelings of anxiety, helplessness, and loneliness. If you find yourself thinking of someone, reach out to them. Make a phone call; send a text or a card or an email. Most importantly, please continue to pray for those who are sick, for health care workers and government leaders and for everyone who is trying to figure out how to move forward with school, work, and life in these extraordinary times.

Christ never promises us an easy walk. But he does promise his constant love and presence. "Remember,” he says, "I am with you always.” May Christ’s strength and peace uphold all of us in the coming days.
