About Saint Andrews

Invitation to Worship

We worship every Sunday morning at 10:30 am. Pastor Merry shares a thoughtful and inspiring scripture-based message, and members of the congregation are actively involved in leading us through prayer, micro-messages, and music. Our service incorporates a variety of music ranging from classical pipe organ pieces and piano solos to traditional and contemporary vocal music and beautifully intricate handbell choir selections.

Children of all ages are welcome in worship. Our children and young adults are active participants as liturgists, ushers, and musicians. Nursery care is available for infants through pre-Kindergarten.

Our service is broadcast on WBUT Radio, 1050 AM, at 11:00 am. Join us as we celebrate God’s steadfast love and boundless grace!

OUR VISION STATEMENT
Through the gifts of the Holy Spirit our vision is to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, by members joining together in leadership and learning, to develop Spiritual gifts and to extend these gifts into the community as true servants of God.

A Brief History

From the time of the first worship service in 1804, up to the present time, the congregation in Butler now known as Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church has been at the forefront of community service and change. In 1824, they sponsored the first Sunday School in Butler which met in the courthouse. In pre-Civil War times there are records of descendants of slaves being received as members. In the 1870’s women were known to lead in prayer at prayer meetings. After the 1890’s a major emphasis was on sending missionaries to far corners of the world to spread the Gospel of Christ. Unlike many other denominations, the United Presbyterian Church revised its Book of Order in 1925 to allow the ordination of women as elders and ministers. The 1950’s saw Saint Andrews begin the broadcast of its weekly worship service at 11:00 AM Sunday mornings. That broadcast continues today. Today our facilities are used in community service by (among others) Wednesday Community Dinners, a Sunday Lunch program, and the Chili Cook-off. For over two hundred years, Saint Andrews has been a presence in Butler, gladly serving God, our community, and our congregation.
